Attorney Profile: Steven J. Kaplan, Esq
Mr. Kaplan's interest in divorce-related legal issues had its origins
in the early 1980's when he took introductory and advanced Family
Law classes while a law student. In 1986-1987 he was given the opportunity
to fine-tune that interest during a one year Judicial Clerkship in the
New Jersey Family Court. Here he had an opportunity to obtain first hand
experience working closely with a respected Family Court Judge on hundreds
of cases involving divorce, custody, alimony, child support, visitation,
domestic violence, and related issues.
Since 1987, he has limited his practice to
domestic violence, and related issues, first as an attorney in the Family Law Department
of a well-regarded large central New Jersey law firm (associate attorney
and then partner) and since 1997, as a principal of his own Family Law firm.
In 1989, he was invited to serve on the Monmouth County Matrimonial Early
Settlement Panel, a group of matrimonial lawyers who volunteer time helping
other lawyers settle their matrimonial cases. He was Chairman of the
Early Settlement Panel
for three years between 1994 and 1997.
Mr. Kaplan is a member of the American Bar Association, the New Jersey
State Bar Association, the Monmouth County Bar Association, and the Association
of Trial Lawyers of America.
