If 
you’re considering separating from your spouse in New Jersey, you’re probably wondering:
“What is the first step? What should I do first? Should I tell him?Do I need to file separation papers to protect myself?”
The good news is that New Jersey does not require you to file for separation.
You can separate immediately — no court filing, no paperwork.
You can move out today if you choose.
But before you do, let’s slow down for one moment.
Just because you can separate without paperwork doesn’t mean you should do it without a clear plan.

There’s no legal requirement to file for separation.
