In New Jersey, "Extreme Cruelty" is a legal label for one of 9 recognized grounds for divorce.
"Extreme Cruelty" includes mental abuse by one spouse that puts the other spouse in danger, or causes the other spouse to feel unsafe or unwell.
To file for divorce on the grounds of extreme cruelty, you'll need to provide specific details about the mentally cruel behavior.
This can include incidents of verbal abuse, emotional manipulation, and controlling behavior.
